A Look at Some of the Women of Comics

WYLFWT.com has shut down its old Pop Culture section! But, never fear, as the best of those archives are making its way to the Daily Articles right here on WYLFWT.com!
This first started off on a website titled "Superheroines of Comics" that I briefly put up and took down. Then, it made its way to the Pop Culture section, and it finally gets promoted to WYLFWT.com Daily Articles!
Its just introduction to some of the heroines and villains found in comics!

Wonder Woman Debut: Sensation Comics #1 (February 1980) A Ridiculously Brief History: HA! This is going to be pretty much next to impossible due to over 60 years of history, multiple Earths (including pre and post Crisis on Infinite Earths), TV shows, and multiple Wonder Women. Oh yeah, and I am sure it will get that much worse after Infinite Crisis. Thank you DC Comics! Why She Rocks "I Am A Woman, Hear Me Roar" Factor: Wonder Woman is the very definition of "I Am A Woman, Hear Me Roar." She comes from the Amazons, an island in which "the stupid men" are banned from. Depending on which version you are discussing, half-goddess, half-human, Wonder Woman has always had a "take no prisoners" attitude. "OMG! That Was So Cool!" Factor: Let us start off with those bracelets. Her ability to deflect just about everything with simply bracelets is so awesome. Not only are her abilities with the bracelets totally Matrix-a-riffic, her 100 uses of the golden whip is just as equally "OMG! That Was So Cool!" "She's Simply Irresistible" Factor: I think that I can honestly say, at any random costume party, Wonder Woman is always a hit. Of course, then there is other, well, domineering-like qualities of Wonder Woman that play to a very select audience, if you catch my drift. External Links: Wonder Woman Central |

Supergirl Debut: Superman #123 (1958) A Ridiculously Brief History: The first version of Supergirl debuted for real in 1959. Her name was Kara Zor-El. She was a cousin of Superman's from the planet Krypton. Over the years, she had gained some notoriety. Unfortunately, she was killed in Crisis on Infinite Earths #7. Supergirl finally reemerged in 1988 made entirely from protoplasm. Later on, in 1996, Peter David wrote the fourth critically acclaimed Supergirl series, and had merged the Protoplasm being with Linda Danvers. In the last story-arc, David reintroduced Kara Zor-El. It was David's eventual plan to have three Supergirls. Unfortunately, the title was cancelled before this could happen. Thankfully, Kara Zor-El returned in 2004 to the delight of many fans and is now starring in an all new Supergirl series. Why She Rocks "I Am A Woman, Hear Me Roar" Factor: Although many people seem to write her off as a female version of Superman, she is much more than that. For one, she heroically gave her life during the "Worst Day in DC History" in Crisis on Infinite Earths. Post-Crisis, Linda Danvers was known as the Earth-Born Angel that took on demons and other crazy monsters on Earth. "OMG! That Was So Cool!" Factor: Take that faster than speeding bullet ordeal, add to the fact that she also has her own clone (depending on which of the 600 DC Earths there are), and you have some awesome moments in the comic books. "She's Simply Irresistible" Factor: I do my best to not get too cheesy in this category, BUT, I think the irresistible factor here has something to do with the S planted on her chest that seems to have the guys rather distracted. Emma Frost Debut: Uncanny X-Men #129 (February 1980) A Ridiculously Brief History: Unfortunately, this biography does not do Emma Frost any justice. Emma Frost debuted during the Phoenix Saga as the psychic member of The Hellfire Club. She was instrumental into turning the Phoenix into the Dark Phoenix. Later on, she switched bodies with Storm and kidnapped Kitty Pryde. Of course, those plans were later thwarted by the good guys. At one point, Emma Frost was presumed dead after an attack from Trevor Fitzroy. Of course she came back to life and became Headmistress of Generation X. Later on, she joined the X-Men after the Cassandra Nova Sentinel massacre on Genosha Island where millions of mutants were killed helplessly. Emma Frost managed to live due to her manifesting her secondary mutation, being able to turn into an unbreakable diamond form. Since then, she became the love interest of Scott Summers, and is now Headmistress of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. Why She Rocks "I Am A Woman, Hear Me Roar" Factor: Emma Frost, co-leader of the X-Men...does it get any bigger than that? Not only that ut she is the CEO of the family business, "Frost Enterprises." All of that and not being afraid to bluntly tell anyone what is up. "OMG! That Was So Cool!" Factor: Emma Frost has the power to control and read minds. She is able to disguise herself and people around her to potential threats. She also has the power to generate Psi blasts with her powers. She later developed a "Secondary Mutation" that enabled her to switch to a indestructible diamond form. The only downside is that she can't use her telepathic powers when she is in this form. I think all of that qualifies as "that was so cool!" "She's Simply Irresistible" Factor: As the winner of the IGN Battle of the Comic Book Babes, the feeling of "this is so wrong, it is just a drawing" hits the minds of comic book geeks everywhere. Emma Frost isn't just your normal everyday blond bombshell. With that sexy domineering, "don't take crap from anybody," attitude she carries with those revealing white corsets, even Scott Summers has a hard time resisting the temptation. |

She-Hulk Debut: Savage She-Hulk #1 (February 1980) A Ridiculously Brief History: Jennifer Walters was your everyday single female lawyer. One day, she ended up getting wounded and lost a lot of blood. Dr. Bruce Banner just happened to be on the scene and did the heroic thing by having an improvised blood transfusion. However, since good ole' Bruce is none other than our favorite "Hulk," Jennifer took on some of the more charming traits of our favorite green hero. Ever since then, Ms. Walters has evolved every step of the way. Why She Rocks "I Am A Woman, Hear Me Roar" Factor: Aside from kicking butt in the battlefield, she also kicks butt in the courtroom. Jennifer Walters is a defense attorney for the Superhuman Law Firm of Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg, & Holliway. "OMG! That Was So Cool!" Factor: At first, She-Hulk was nothing more than a female version of The Hulk with a few negligible differences. However, as time went by, the She-Hulk came into her own. The biggest change was breaking the "Fourth Wall." Starting with her second solo series, Sensational She-Hulk, she had the one ability no other Marvel hero or villian had...she knew she was in a comic book. Ever since then, the She-Hulk solo series has been a great stage for social commentary on some of the convoluted mess that is comic books. All of this and being able to beat Hercules in an arm-wrestling contest is enough for her superpowers to pretty qualify as "that was so cool!" "Sex Appeal" Factor: Time to face it, ever since Star Trek hit the airwaves in the 60s, nerds everywhere have had a thing for women in green. By "in green," I don't mean clothing either. Debut: Savage She-Hulk #1 (February 1980) A Ridiculously Brief History: It is really hard to tell exactly as to how far Mystique's legacy goes back. It is said that she is over a 100 Years Old. With her abilities as a shape shifter, she has lived under many identities. However, she is most famous for giving birth to Nightcrawler. She is also the adoptive mother of Rogue. Why She Rocks "I Am A Woman, Hear Me Roar" Factor: Aside from having great abilities at deceiving anyone to get what she wants and suppress her aging process, she is a very skilled fighter. Also, Mystique is a skilled strategist, saboteur and thief. "OMG! That Was So Cool!" Factor: "You know, people like you are the reason I was afraid to go to school as a child. "Who didn't stand up & cheer when Mystique uttered those words before she laid the smackdown on Senator Kelly in the first X-Men movie? Aside from that, Mystique always makes the perfect and still somehow surprising plot twist whether in the comics, movies, or cartoons (X-Men: Evolution Season 2 Cliffhanger, anyone?) "Sex Appeal" Factor: Where do we exactly begin? Mystique is a character who knows that she has sex appeal, and knows exactly how to use it to her advantage. Also, who can forget Rebecca Romijin Stamos in that rather alluring costume in the X-Men movies?
