I Don't Give a Shit About What the WGA Wants

Free-Floating Hostility

It has been almost three months since the Writers Guild of America went on strike. I have read article after article on this strike. I have seen so many supporters since day one. You know what I felt for the WGA since day one?

Absolutely nothing.

I can't sit here and throw out my support for people who complain about what they get paid, even if they make three times what I make. Let me tell you, try living off the lower class income, then you can come bitch to me about how much money you make. Then, we will have a serious conversation.

I am not saying they don't deserve what they are asking for. They do deserve royalties from DVD and internet sales. However, the people that have made this strike happen need a reality check.

Nobody gets paid what they actually deserve. Sports figures get paid 7 to 8 figures a year to run really fast while police officers, who risk their lives to protect their community, barely get 6 figures if they are really lucky and try super-hard. Welcome to the real world. Nice to meet you!

Another thing a lot of the supporters who aren't in the industry need to understand is that many of the crew members who make no more than us Average Joes do are losing their jobs because of the lack of work available That is why late night talk show hosts like Jay Leno went back to work without the writers. So, by supporting the writer's strike, you are effectively supporting average people losing their jobs, when they REALLY need the employment.

I know I am probably going a bit extreme there, but it is something people need to think about.

However, one of their demands that do believe that they should get is jurisdiction over reality shows. That way, the next time they go on strike, we won't be treated to an overflow of such shitty shitty programming. However, I am, once again, realistic and realize that's probably the one thing they aren't getting.

For those who want to make fun of me, poke holes in the inconsistencies found in the previous paragraphs, point out ironies, tell me that some writers are homeless, say "Well, I don't give a shit about you either," or preach to me about how the WGA should get everything... go for it. Just pay attention to the title of this post.

Meanwhile, WGA, quit your bitching and get back to work. You got a lot of catching up to do!.

Much ablidged, Laura. Thank you for the short but to the point feedback. :-D

Empathy

Okay I was stumbling when I found this site. I pro union however this strike well it's hard for me to understand. There are writers striking whose vacation package is the same as my wage (or more). I work to keep the lights on, food, and gas in my car. I wonder if these types of white coller union folks empathize with a person who works at a fast food joint or is on public assistance.
