Here With Me

Always present, continously following
Never leaving, forever surrounding.
Constantly doing their very worst,
Unrelenting in causing me hurt.
Sadly invisible, entirely real
Completely intangible, absent feel.
There exists but only three,
Each equally sharp and crafty.
No matter why, where or when
Here with me, the dreadful demons of dark depression.

The first, so fiendish
He stole, without penitence.
Many years ago it occurred,
Back when prayers were answered.
Just overnight, gone indefinitely
No goodbye, my family.
Not dead or moved away,
Tragically here they still stay.
Living together, saying nothing
Sense lost, emotionally numbing.

The next, laughs cruelly
So proud, ugly truly.
Determined purpose is to separate,
Keeping distance certainly his favorite.
Not near, held faraway
Most literally, others metaphorically.
Still of course dear friends,
No longer able to transcend.
I try, attempts futile
He thwarts, another fail.

The last, sullen she-beast
Devil's child, here unleashed.
Ripping, tearing be her art,
Piece by piece my heart.
Attachment great, longing lasting
Can't have, idea fazing.
She will never be mine,
Alone today and all time.
So sickening, existing of
This life, without love.

Here now, all revealed
My being, thoughts unsealed.
Not to worry you though
I've accepted my destined sorrow.
Day in, day out
Strong self, same route.
On and on they jape,
Knowing I can never escape.
The fiend, the proud and sullen,
Here with me, the dreadful demons of dark depression.

rhyme sceme

I like the subject... it's hard to write about depression and keep it fresh. This is obviously personal, but I can relate. The only criticism is that I really don't like the AB AB AB "every line has to rhyme" scheme, but you used it effectively. Great work!

Very good!

I liked it. I am a fan of the AB AB rhyming, but that's generally how I write poetry, myself, anyway.

For me, I have battled my personal demons when it comes to depression, so I can relate to this and understand better than anyone else who has never had any kind of depression. Keep up the good work, JP!
